The best time of Nightwish it just was that!
ReplyDeleteHappy monday and have nice day Anette!
I assume that close to 1% of the islander views are mine.
ReplyDeleteUsually I don't write any comments, but this post makes me a litlle angry. "It speaks for itself", I mean, seriously?! What else does it show than the three most viewed Nightwishvideos on youtube? First of all, the music is Tuomases and Marcos. One reason, that they are viewed so often is definetly the singer change in that time, especially for Amaranth and Bye Bye Beautiful. And I dont really understand what Anette wants to show with that. Sure, you can be proud of your singing in Nightwish, but with a title like "speaks for itself" you bring a pretty passively aggressiv mood with it. I dont know what happend back then and I honestly dont care. As a huge nightwish fan I definetly know, that Tuomas is the genius behind all of that and as long as he writes the music, the singer is pretty irrelevant. Maybe I understood you wrong here, but if its how I read it, than honestly, get yourself together. Nightwish never was, never is and never will be the voice, but the music.
ReplyDeleteReally? If that's the case then, why doesn't Tuomas release his compositions without a singer, just music only??? I noticed he does put instrumental versions os his songs on the album, but if that form is so successful on its own, he shouldn't need a lead singer at all. Obviously he does need a lead singer so you cannot say it it never was never is and never will be the voice.
DeleteI'm Proud of you dear Annette. You are the best. Please keep on rocking!!
ReplyDeleteA lot of those views came from me!
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of resentment....You should do therapy to overcome your problems.
ReplyDeleteSole: I don't have any resentment and I believe its YOU and other so called fans that need therapy, my dear. Take care!
ReplyDeleteWow! Congratulations Anette! That's more views that the Enter Sandman's video! Very impressive!
ReplyDelete¬¬ stop the bots, please.
NIco_MG: hehe, I guess NW has more fanatic fans than Metallica=) Take care and thanks for telling=)
ReplyDeleteI normally don't wade into internet comments, and as she said, Anette can speak for herself. However, enough is enough.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure this is Anette's personal blog, and if she wants to voice what she did for the band (there is absolutely zero doubt that Nightwish saw more commercial success because of her joining and changing the vocal style to something more appealing to a bigger audience) on her own blog, that is her right to do so without being shamed.
I think she (Anette) takes SO MUCH crap, STILL, for being different than what was expected from her. Being different is not being bad, it's not being incompetent, it's being a change. All the burden of that change in sound fell on her shoulders, because she was the one element that changed -- but it was the group's creative decision, and ended up being Anette's cross to bear, and one she had to bear with a smile and showmanship.
There's not NEARLY enough recognition that if it wasn't for that difference changing things up, a style she herself brought to Nightwish, no matter how great a composer Tuomas is (and he is!), Nightwish wouldn't be as huge as they currently are.
I believe that credit is deserved where credit is due. Anette deserves so much more than she gets for what she did for Nightwish, and bearing the brunt of complainers & those resistant to change, regardless of what went down between her and the band at the end. Show the woman some respect.

To Luana Levi and Sole: the circumstances that drove Anette out of Nightwish are very relevant and I can understand why she thinks she has something to restate about. So let's say that you - Luana and Sole - were in Pink Floyd as THE main singer (not both, of course) and let's say that you did two really good albums with them where Gilmour and Waters were the sole songs writers and composers. Let's say that you were in the middle of a tour and that you got sick and let's say that Waters and Gilmour kicked you out of the band because you were in hospital and there were booked shows to do. How do you think you would react? Some say that Anette wasn't fit for Nightwish and that all the merit goes to Tuomas. I agree that Tuomas is a (troubled) musical and lyrical genius in his own way, but the way he kicked out Tarja first and then Anette show us that he is childish and vindictive too. To me DPP and IM are two great albums thanks to Tuomas AND thanks to Anette (and the other guys, of course). You can say that Tuomas (with a great help by Pip Williams) can do a Nightwish album without Anette, while the contrary is not possibile. I grant you this. But even Bruce Dickinson solo is not Iron Maiden nor Peter Gabriel solo is old Genesis nor Tarja Turunen solo or Anette Olzon solo are Nightwish. So let's stop be callous, please.
ReplyDeleteYour voice brought them into mainstream popularity. Tarja is talented, but her style is not consumable by many.
ReplyDeleteHi Anette I love all the songs you sing in Nightwish especially music Storytime
ReplyDelete💗 Amaranth
Nettie O- kicking ass and taking names.
ReplyDeleteI hope your haters' health insurances cover the amount of burns you keep dishing out!!! .
Drag them all Queen!!!
Anette does not have a lot resentment, she is sick and tired of being abused, told that she can't sing, told really horrible comments on a daily basis on social media. This post is really to them, those people who have claimed that the nighwish era when she was there wasn't successful. So Anette is giving them some proof there that these three songs were done in her era. Yes, Tuomas wrote them but he wrote the other songs as well. So why these three are the highest viewed Nightwish songs??! Anette has a LOT of fans and a strong following. While I resent Tuomas for writing bye bye beautiful as an insult to Tarja, I relate to the song in a different way and Anette's vocals are very well on the track. Anette, you were awesome in Nightwish but you're too good to stay in a band that didn't appreciate you. Fly solo, that's the best way xx

ReplyDeleteYamila, I agree with you that numbers don't always equal to quality, but I thinks that comparing those Nightwish songs to GANGNAM STYLE it's a little disrespectful towards Tuomas composing and arranging abilities. I think Tuomas did his best with Tarja because he was lovelorn for her. The fact that on the first album without Tarja he wrote three song about the end of his unrequited love, "The poet and the pendulum", "Bye bye beautiful" and "Master passion greed", speaks a lot. Then in Imaginaerum he tried a different, more cinematographic approach. Anette was chosen because she is a wonderful pop-rock singer with an outgoing personality, almost the opposite to the operatic and aloof Tarja (both gorgeous woman, I must say). If you don't like DPP and IM you cannot blame Anette for a musical direction that Tuomas himself choose and that many fans love.
ReplyDeleteDear Anette,
ReplyDeleteDpp is definitely on of the best Nw albums, especially close to my heart, it has released on the year and month when I have moved abroad, I 've been lonely and scared. I was so curious of you and have listened the album over and over again! I just get gooseback on my skin when hear u singing Eva, it is so beautiful! Things have changed, but These memories and songs no one can take away from me! Thank you for those albums and songs! Best wishes for you and your family!
DPP is a really good album, The Poet, Sahara and The Islander are my favourites. Anyway, it had been really weird if the most viewed Nightwish-songs on YouTube had NOT been from Anette-era, because that was when Nightwish entered YouTube. :D
ReplyDeleteI wished everyone would love him or herself unconditionally... Anette, you are a beautiful Soul and you somehow seem to talk on a more meta-level about self-love here in general (I read your blog now for many years). Those who intend to make someone feel bad with himself/herself, have also a self-love issue...It doesn't make sense to criticize, nor to fight for recognition- only encouragement helps! So I would like to encourage everyone here to focus on the fulfilment of their own dreams. We are interested in how someone struggles and overcomes issues, otherwise we wouldn't read a blog. Anette is a great example for someone who shares her life in order to teach and to learn from it- maybe we could be more humble and compassionate towards each other and understand that every finger that we point to another person, also points to ourself.
