I can say that if you like Tarja, go and get this album on august 30th. It´s really her best album so far, even if I like them all, but she has definitely found her own style and this album is really great! I especially like the beautiful choirs and her voice is just perfect in all the songs and the guitar sound is great!

ReplyDeleteI have to agree Anette! I also think that some of Tarja's best work has been solo. Now she gets to be creative and be a part of writing. As a vocalist myself (and a fan if you both and even of Nightwish) I believe having input in the writing process improves a vocalist's talent and connection to the songs. Also, I must say that I think it is classy that you both respect one another as people and artists. It makes me an even bigger fan. Cheers and best wishes!

She´s just the best singer I´ve ever heard of... Although I can´t deny that she was at her best when with NW. But luckily her beautiful voice is not bound to Nightwish, I am glad that she´s doing her solo stuff =)

ReplyDeletei love her songs, even those i didn't at first, after hearing them live, they got stuck in my ear , like falling awake,i feel immortal, minor heaven...a lot of great songs on her albums, so i'm really looking forward to the new album as well. don't know if you heard of it but i think three years ago she had an acoustic part of the concert when came down to the audience and sang and played keys among the crowd, so special, to connect to people like that.
you have the same way to connect to people, and i'm also looking forward to your solo concerts. and one more thing, it's really wonderfull of you to publicly support another ex nightwish singer,so kudos to you :)

It's nice you support Tarja ;). But honestly, I don't really like her solo stuff and the way her voice is changing. However, I think What Lies Beneath is better than My Winter Storm, so I hope she'll improve with every album ;). I don't know if I'll buy the new one, I'd rather listen to it on Spotify first ;).

ReplyDeletecompare any Nightwish album to another and you will notice a difference in both the song writing and the musical style. Some would say that Century child is the definitive Nightwish album, others say Once is, and there are those who say Imaginaerum is. I say each album is just a chapter in the book, as it is with Tarja's solo career. With each album she improves, as does her band. That fact is made evident when you compare My winter storm to What lies beneath. So I have no doubt that Colours in the dark will be an amazing experience.

Tarja has been my first real huge vocal inspiration when I started to sing. Her timbre is so elegant and unique. I think as well that she was at her best during her Nightwish time, but I like her solo works too. I'm probably one of the few people who liked her more in My Winter Storm than in What Lies Beneath. For now I've heard only Victim of Ritual from the new album, and she really sounds at her best.

I have the promo CD of this album since a month, so I have listened it many times since then and I can say that this is a great album and every word you say about it is absolutely right... It is a very inventive album, very personnal and she seems to really have totally found her own identity with her music and her voice !

For me personally, no matter how much I love her and her voice, it just seems like what I've heard from this album so far is pretty "washed" in terms of style and originality, doesn't give me any impact whatsoever. I think, I love much your music as solist than when you was the singer in Nightwish. Sincerely, your voice has a Rock Style and the Heavy Metal is not for you. And I think, that was one of the issues in Nightwish, for the fans. The radical change on the voice!
But, I want to say: congratulations for your awesome job on Imaginaerum. Your voice feel more pure, free and you showed your qualities.

I'm very glad that you like Tarja. I like her too. The new album is the best of her solo! But... i didn't like the design of cover. But songs are more important than the albun-cover, aren't they? So, my favorites are: Lucid Dreamer, Never Enough, Mystique Voyage, Darkness and Deliverance.

ReplyDeleteI must confess that I'm a massive fan of the music of Tarja! :-) A Tarjaholic! :-D In my life I've made 2 major musical discoveries. The first being Ocean Colour Scene whom I discovered way back in 1996. The 2nd is Tarja Turunen 16 years later in 2012 last year.
I buy all of Tarja's releases by import from a record shop in Finland ( where Tarja is from ) and I've ordered all the three different versions of Colours In The Dark! :-) I should have them in about just over one week! :-) Very excited! :-)

I admire you Anette to come out and be honest about loving Tarja's music. There was unnecessary hate comments about "Bring Tarja back" when you were with NW but you stood strong and that is amazing. I heard Victim of Ritual the other day. Found it interesting but it didn't feel quite right to me (note I didn't say sound).
ReplyDeleteI received the pre-download of ReVamp's WildCard a few days ago and I'm still amazed by it. Someone has already put it up in youtube (I've sent Floor the links)..I'm kinda disappointed that a "fan" would do that. From listening you can tell they've really worked hard on this album and for someone to carelessly throw it on youtube where it can be ilegally downloaded...some of the fans who commented on the videos encouraged people to go buy the album (either preorder or wait till release) to support ReVamp.
Tarja is really good singer and this new cd seems to be great! She is here in Brazil to participate Angra dvd in this Sunday \ o / you bring good vibes, only speaks of an artist and soon he comes to my country! haha. Have a nice Sunday with the family.

I will have to give this one a try. Tarja's prior albums were good, and her voice was (as always) exceptional, but it was clear that she was still trying to find her "solo voice". (Not "vocal" voice, but "style" voice). It's nice to hear that you think she's really found her style. I'll have to check out this video and potential check out the album..

I agree with you. This is her best album of her solo career so far. Ive always liked Tarja but until now I used to think that her work was ok. I had the pleasure to hear the new stuff and I inmediatly loved it. Great sounds, great voices and great guitars. It is super solid.

Have you listened to 'Epicloud' by The Devin Townsend Project? It's a very positive metal album, there is a gospel choir in a few of the songs, and I just thought I would mention it! It was my album of the year from 2012.

I finally saw the Nightwish movie (I know this is old news). I'm here in South Africa see, and my friend's parents only found the movie when they went to Finland for holiday :) You were awesome in the movie though!
I'm glad you like Tarja's new album; I have all her solo albums (even though they are very expensive here) :) If you were to release a solo album, I'd use all my savings to buy that too hehe your voice is just wonderful!

I am actually surprised that you two don't share bad feelings about each other. Since we, the fans, don't know a lot about what's going on inside the band's "kitchen" nor the people around "it", most of us assumed that things aren't good between you and Tarja. I am a very old fan of Nightwish and Tarja and when you became the frontwoman of the band, I have had very hard time getting used to that change. In time though, I did and I started to like you. The fact that you are not with NW anymore is pretty upsetting, it almost feels like when they fired Tarja. I hope that things are working out for you anyway.

ReplyDeleteI am very surprised to see Tarja and you talking like this, I've never thought to see this in my life! It could mean a start of one bright friendship in future. What I'm hoping for, is seeing you in Serbia one day, 'cause I really need to hear the lady who recorded Imaginaerum with Nightwish. You brought a new idea to Nightwish: charisma, constant smile and emotion, a completely new energy, and I liked it. I am not satisfied with Floor Jansen singing old songs, but, oh well, it is their choice, after all. Thank you for all the positive feelings you gave us, and may the colours of your heart light your path in the dark, unknown future ;-)

Tarja has really excelled in her career and has truly found herself. I would love to hear something from both of you I think that would make for an amazing duo.
